Loy Kratong 2008
Added 02-December-2008

Loy Krathong is an important Thai Festival held every year on the full moon night of the 12th month of the traditional Thai lunar calendar (Mid-November in the Western calendar). The word loy means to float, and a krathong is a disk cut from the trunk of a banana tree decorated with folded banana leaves, flowers, candles and incense sticks. Another symbol of the festival are Khom Loy which are floating lanterns, both the Krathong and the Khom Loy are used to 'float' or 'fly' away misfortune in the past and ask for good luck in the future.

Preparations started in the morning with students making their Krathongs in the class and in the evening the students and their families enjoyed a pot luck dinner while watching dance and music performances. The evening ended with everyone sending off Khom Loy into the beautiful full-moon night sky.
